why high standards are important

  1. avoid mediocrity - people rise or fall to the culture of expectations set by their environment. if you don’t seek out high standards then you settle for a lower bar set by someone else.
  2. unlock future opportunities - how you do anything is how you do everything. writing a high standards blog post can be a key to unlock a conversation with a mentor, taking a challenge seriously as a project manager can lead to finding a co-founder, and working on projects you enjoy could lead to finding your next role.
  3. work with the best - iron sharpens iron. game recognizes game. impact is a team sport, and raising your own standards increases the probability you’ll be around others with the same value.

how to achieve high standards

for each session, we will be combining different skills and practicing high standards.

  1. identify what great looks like. first, find what great looks like to seek understanding on what made it stand out. this helps set the bar and can be shared with others to do the same.
  2. know that it’s domain specific. a ****high standards youtube video will not lead to a high standards ted talk. even though they both are about sharing information, there are nuances and differences to understand in structure, delivery, and audience expectations. the same is for other areas, like learning a new skill, building a new project, or working in a new role.
